Dr. Mark Ling’s career reflects a unique balance between clinical dermatology, patient care, and innovative medical research. He is double board-certified in both internal medicine and dermatology. His formal education and training include:
- Harvard University (Cambridge, MA) – AB, Biochemistry (magna cum laude)
- Duke University (Durham, NC) – Doctor of Medicine/PhD in Immunology under the prestigious Medical Scientist Training Program
- University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, PA) – Internal Medicine Residency
- University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, PA) – Dermatology Residency
Dr. Ling has participated as a faculty member at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where he directed the clinical research program and directly cared for patients. He then joined the faculty of the Emory University School of Medicine, where his roles included directing the Clinical Pharmacology Research Unit and the Psoriasis Treatment Center. After leaving Emory, he joined Dr. Mark Holzberg in what eventually grew into Avail Dermatology.
Dr. Ling also founded MedaPhase, a clinical research center specializing in development and testing of new investigational therapies for skin disease. Dr. Ling believed that clinical research could be conducted with equal quality, and with greater efficiency and patient-friendliness in a private setting. Dr. Ling has authored dozens of peer-reviewed articles, and he has spoken at national and international meetings. He has participated in the development of breakthrough therapies, including many of the biologic drugs that have revolutionized dermatology.
